Terms of service

Last updated 9 September 2026. These terms cover engagements arranged through this site. A signed statement of work, where one exists, takes precedence over anything here.

Scope and quotes

We scope before we quote, and scoping is free. A quote covers what it describes. When the work turns out to be different from what we scoped, we re-quote and you decide, rather than us proceeding and invoicing the difference.

Who owns the work

You do. Code we write for you is yours, delivered into your repository, with no licence key tied to us and no proprietary framework you cannot leave. Where we use open-source components, their own licences apply and we tell you which.

Access and security

We work on a staging copy wherever possible. Where live access is genuinely required we ask for a time-limited account carrying only the capabilities the job needs, and we tell you when to revoke it. We do not share your credentials outside the engineers on your engagement.

Confidentiality

We treat what we see on your systems as confidential, whether or not an NDA is signed. We are happy to sign one; none is required for a first conversation.

What we do not promise

We do not promise search rankings, revenue outcomes, or that third-party software will behave. We promise the work we quoted, done to a standard another developer can read, and honesty about it when something is going wrong.

Ending an engagement

Either side can end an engagement. You keep everything produced up to that point, documented, and we will spend a reasonable amount of time handing over to whoever comes next.
